VBS Interventional Medical Applications
The leading causes of death in the industrialized world today are cardiovascular disease, infection, cancer, and pulmonary disease. They all have one thing in common: the involvement of the patient’s vasculature in disease formation and progression. All of these diseases are accompanied, and often preceded, by changes in a patient’s blood vessels.
Despite the arterial system’s involvement in so many prominent diseases, a safe and effective method for obtaining samples of arterial tissue from patients has not been available until now.
VBS Interventional has recognized this unmet need and created the world’s first endoarterial biopsy catheter, a medical device designed to obtain biopsy specimens from the inner layers of an artery via a minimally invasive technique.
VBS Interventional has developed the endoarterial biopsy catheter for the study, diagnosis, monitoring, medical management and treatment of vascular-based diseases.
The endoarterial biopsy catheter obtains arterial biopsy samples from vascular-based disease patients in order to provide physicians with vital information about each patient’s disease characteristics. This will enable physicians to make more informed treatment decisions that will lead to better patient outcomes. Arterial biopsies can be analyzed using genomic and proteomic methods in order to describe the current status of a patient’s condition and provide important information about eventual disease progression.
The catheter will provide a means for monitoring therapeutic interventions, optimizing medical management, customizing diagnosis and therapy, and anticipating future adverse events through the early identification of disease markers in arterial biopsies from patients.
Arterial biopsies can also provide the starting material for the ex vivo cell culture of autologous vascular grafts and other autologous therapies using a patient’s own tissue.
Information contained in arterial biopsies identifies proteins and receptors involved in vascular-based diseases which can be used in pharmaceutical drug discovery and development.
VBS Interventional focuses on improving the diagnosis and medical management of pulmonary hypertension, pulmonary vascular diseases, organ transplant rejection, sepsis, peripheral artery disease, coronary artery disease, acute respiratory distress syndrome, collagen vascular diseases such as lupus and scleroderma, vasculitis, sickle cell disease, pulmonary embolism, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and lung cancer.
CAUTION: Investigational Device.
Limited by Federal law to investigational use.
This device should be used only by physicians with a thorough understanding of percutaneous interventional procedures.
